As founder of Remnant Fellowship Church and Weigh Down Ministries, Gwen Shamblin grounds all of her work in love and praise of Jesus Christ. Gwen Shamblin has helped numerous Remnant Fellowship families to build Godly homes.
The process of bringing God into the family home is gentle but certain. It starts when parents choose to intentionally design a home where children’s surroundings exemplify beauty, grace, and love. This then becomes an environment where the family can begin to pray together and take time for quiet contemplation. Many families find that it helps to start a daily family Bible study or have family meetings where members discuss each other’s needs and any current challenges they are experiencing in school, work and relationships. The needs are prayed over and God is sought for practical wisdom. Remnant Fellowship families very naturally put into practice Deuteronomy chapter 6 that talks about how parents should be discussing God with their children all day long and looking to Him. Families also regularly discuss spiritual goals, personal conviction and areas of growth that are needed to follow in the footsteps of Christ. These areas of personal conviction are prayed over as a family and all of this is handled with great respect and love by the parents.
Families must also establish ways of connecting to the broader religious community. Going to church together is essential, as is intentionally honoring the spiritual aspects of holiday seasons as a family. Parents with teenagers may also find that it is extremely effective to connect their children with peers through youth fellowship groups. Parents can then invite their child’s friends into the home to reinforce the home-community link.
With degrees in biochemistry and nutrition from the University of Tennessee, Gwen Shamblin created a weight loss philosophy that integrates spirituality called the Weigh Down diet. She went on to become a New York Times bestselling author with her book, The Weigh Down Diet. In addition, Gwen Shamblin founded the Remnant Fellowship Church, headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee. With locations across the US, the church’s leadership has grown through people who have benefited from her teachings.
The leadership in Remnant Fellowship Church is full of strong marriages and beautiful families. One such couple is Brandon and Elizabeth Hannah, son-in-law and daughter of Gwen Shamblin. Parents to four children, Brandon and Elizabeth help lead the church’s youth group that meet on Saturday nights for fellowship and talk about their faith.
David and Jennifer Martin are two of the founding members of the Remnant Fellowship Church, and through that connection, improved their marriage, their finances, and their relationships with their five children. David and Jennifer also live in Brentwood to be close to the church.
Tedd and Candace Anger, originally from New York City, became leaders with Remnant Fellowship in 2001. They began to visit the Nashville church location after having gone through the church’s faith based weight loss program, Weigh Down, and their commitment to the Church community increased. In 2002 they moved to Brentwood to be close to the main church location. Tedd now serves in many capacities in the Church, as does Candace, both of whom are regular cohosts on Remnant Fellowship TV’s “You Can Overcome” show.

Remnant Fellowship Church
Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Gwen Shamblin founded Weigh Down Ministries just a few hours away in Franklin, Tennessee. Less than ten miles from Franklin is the Remnant Fellowship Church, which Gwen Shamblin was also instrumental in establishing. Remnant Fellowship utilizes a wide array of media channels in its outreach efforts, including television, radio, and social media.
While some religious organizations were quick to adopt media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, others have hesitated or are using them ineffectively. As with any ministry’s outreach efforts, social media requires a strategy, personnel, support, and measurable goals. There are several key factors to consider in order to engage current church members and attract new ones through social media.
First, it’s important to understand each networking service, the content it includes, and the audience that follows it. Facebook and Instagram are very different platforms, each having its advantages. Secondly, integrate your social media messages with existing communications, mentioning Facebook pages in regular church bulletins, for example. This includes monitoring networks for feedback and comments and always responding in a timely manner. Finally, have clear and measurable goals in order to determine if your efforts are successful.
The acclaimed author of over a dozen books, Gwen Shamblin is the founder of Remnant Fellowship Church in Brentwood, Tennessee. Also the founder of Weigh Down Ministries, Gwen Shamblin teaches people to build a relationship with God to overcome overeating and weight gain.
Human beings were created with two areas that need nourishment: the stomach and the heart. An empty stomach is filled with physical food. An empty heart, on the other hand, is filled with spiritual nourishment.
Sadly, many people attempt to fill an empty heart with earthly things such as food, alcohol, tobacco, money, sex, and praise. Once a connection is established between the heart and the earthly desire, overindulgence is often the result. When the earthly desire is food, overindulgence causes unhealthy weight gain.
The solution to being overweight is to break this unhealthy connection. Relearn to eat only when hungry, relearn to nourish an empty heart with a relationship with God, and relearn to identify hunger urges to better overcome them.
Remnant Fellowship Church
Gwen Shamblin founded the nonprofit Weigh Down Ministry in 1986, and has since overseen the creation of its written and filmed content. In 1999, Gwen Shamblin and her husband, David, acquired 40 acres of land in Brentwood, Tennessee, that they donated in their effort to establish the Remnant Fellowship Church.
Following the teachings of the Bible, Remnant Fellowship Church helps guide its members through difficult life situations such as depression and divorce by aiding them in their search for a renewed life purpose. In order to support them on this journey, the church hosts a number of ministries, such as the following:
The congregation at Remnant Fellowship Church helps fulfill the physical needs of its members in a variety of ways. Whether someone needs assistance with meal preparation or moving house, the church can dispatch others to aid them. The church also provides physical needs services through such outlets as Handyman Construction Services and its Financial Guidance program.
Remnant Fellowship Church also welcomes its congregation to celebrate the message of God through its music ministry. Members are welcome to participate in the Praise Band, which regularly puts on concerts for the community. Singers may also participate in the music ministry through the church choir, where they will join others for rehearsals and performances on a weekly basis.
Through its spiritual ministry, Remnant Fellowship Church helps its members overcome the difficulties they face by providing access to guidance and visitation services. In addition to its numerous web-based resources, the church boasts a network of individuals who will meet with those in need and provide counsel to assist them in leading more faithful lives.
Weigh Down Ministries
A longtime resident of Tennessee, Gwen Shamblin founded and has served as pastor at Remnant Fellowship Church for nearly two decades. Concurrent with this role, Gwen Shamblin has maintained directing, writing, and producing responsibilities at Weigh Down Ministries.
Since its inception more than three decades ago, Weigh Down Ministries has strived to help individuals make the permanent changes that will help them lose weight. Taking a faith-based approach to weight maintenance, the organization offers solutions that differ from traditional diets.
Those who participate in the Weigh Down program have the unique opportunity to find the root of their overeating tendencies. Throughout their educational experience, these individuals will discover that these habits stem from a void that they have been attempting to fill not with God, but with food. This philosophy permeates the entire Weigh Down program, teaching participants how to shift away from this “lustful” way of eating and towards the more natural act of using food only as a means of sustenance and controlling hunger.
All Weigh Down Ministries material, from live webcasts to reading matter, supports participants through their weight loss journey. In addition, individuals who have found success after joining the program frequently provide counseling sessions to current participants to further encourage their progress and help them reach their weight loss goals.
